Frequently asked questions

How much paint do I need per square metre?

About 0.1 L per m² per coat for smooth walls with standard emulsion (10 m²/L coverage).

How many coats of paint should I apply?

Two coats over a primer is standard; deep colours or covering dark walls may need three.

Do I need a primer?

Yes on new plaster, plasterboard, stains or strong colour changes; not needed for repainting a similar colour.

Should I deduct windows and doors?

Yes — subtract their area from the wall area for a more accurate estimate.
