Example calculation

A 6 m × 4 m room (24 m²) with a 5 cm screed needs 1.2 m³ of screed — roughly 17 bags of 25 kg cement and 1,800 kg of sand for a 1:4 mix.

Frequently asked questions

What thickness should a sand-cement screed be?

Bonded screeds are typically 25–40 mm thick; unbonded or floating screeds are 50–75 mm; over underfloor heating, 65–75 mm.

How long does screed take to dry?

Allow about 1 day per millimetre for the first 40 mm, plus extra time above that, before laying floor finishes.

What is the right cement-to-sand ratio for screed?

A 1:3 or 1:4 cement-to-sand mix by volume is standard for floor screed.

Can I use this for liquid screed?

Use it for the volume; consult the supplier for liquid screed bag/pump quantities.
